Jan Brett
Jan Brett is one of the most talented authors and illustrators. She writes beautiful stories about animals and paints fabulously detailed pictures to go along with each story. Every page has pictures hidden within the illustrations depicting miniature scenes or upcoming events in the story.

with activities for children, character masks to print, as well as puzzles and games to play. You will find instructions for drawing Hedgie the hedgehog, one of Jan Brett’s favorite animals. Jan Brett also narrates several short videos about her many fabulous books.
In our library classes this month children will act out the story of The Mitten, a tale of a boy who loses his mitten in the snow and how it became a place for forest animals to gather. Our younger classes will act out the story by actually crawling under a giant mitten.
Another wonderful story we will read this month is Jan Brett’s newest story, The 3 Little Dassies. In this book, three little “guinea pig-like” animals live in rock crevices in the dessert in Namibia, Africa. The story has been billed as an African Three Little Pigs re-creation. Can’t wait to find out what happens!
In addition, to celebrate the holidays we will read
Gingerbread Baby, a beautiful story of the Gingerbread Boy and his adventures as he runs away from the little old woman and the little old man. The holiday pictures in this story are very festive and will get everyone in the holiday spirit.
