Read, Write & Earn a Free Book!
Barnes and Noble has kicked off its Summer Reading Program for kids in grades 1-6. During the months of July and August, kids can read 8 books and then write about their favorite parts in a Reading Journal. Journals can then be presented at a local store and a free book can be chosen.
Summer Reading Fun
Summer is the perfect time to explore, have fun, read, and (yes) even learn new skills!
New York public libraries are planning fun virtual and in-person programs related to this year’s theme of Tails and Tales. There will be special events, reading challenges, fun activities, and more through August.
Families can check their local public library’s website to find out what exciting local events have been planned.
Teens can enter the 2021 national Teen Video Challenge for a chance to win recognition and a cash prize for creating a short video to promote libraries and Summer Reading.

Stories From Space! Listen to Astronauts Read Kids’ Books
Story Time From Space, a project from the nonprofit Global Space Education Foundation features astronauts reading children’s books from the International Space Station. A team of educators and scientists select books to be read that are related to STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) concepts. An organization called CASIS (Center for the Advancement of Science in Space) then helps to get the books launched into orbit. Here’s a video of astronaut Kate Rubins reading Rosie Revere, Engineer.
