Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

dr-seuss

In K-2 library we planned a party to celebrate the birth of
Dr. Seuss. (March 2nd)
We read Happy Birthday To You
by Dr. Seuss

The children were asked to
listen carefully to the story because
we
were going to plan a party.
Who would we invite?
What party
supplies would we need?
What should we serve?

When the story was finished, the class
was divided into groups.

One group made a list of
Dr. Seuss characters
to invite to the party.

(Horton, Bartholomew, Sam,
The Grinch, The Cat…)

Another group made a list of
what we would serve.

The Second grade children worked as a team. They chose a scribe, someone
who could spell correctly and had
good handwriting. They had the other
members of the group do the research.
Using the Dr. Seuss books on display
in our library,
the children looked
for food or characters to put
on their lists.

Kindergarten & First grade classes
worked on birthday
cards for
Dr. Seuss and drawings of gifts they
would like to give to
him for
his birthday if they could.

One child thought Dr. Seuss
would have liked to have a Kindle.

A large birthday cake was drawn on posterboard and several children volunteered to be the illustrators
and
color the cake.

All the lists, cards and drawings
came together as a
bulletin board advertising
the birthday of the great Dr. Seuss.

All of their contributions were added to
the
bulletin board outside of the library.
