We’ve had a terrific year reading books by great children’s authors. Many of them offer book-related activities on their web sites, as well as information about what they are doing now. Visit our featured authors’ web sites by clicking on the images below. (Please note: Laurie Keller’s website is temporarily unavailable but should be up again soon).

September is Library Card Sign Up Month
Our East Woods Library has many great books, and your local public library (usually, right in your neighborhood) can offer families access to so much information and cultural opportunities. In addition to books and multimedia materials that can be borrowed, local public libraries offer free programs and access to many tools, both high and low tech. All you need is a library card.
September is Library Card Sign Up Month. Most local libraries just require proof of ID and proof of residence, so find your local library and sign up today!

Dewey Decimal Games
Here are some great library activities for you to try:
Mrs. Lodge is a librarian who created a pretty cool game called Shelver. The game has 3 different levels of difficulty, and you can choose to arrange fiction or non-fiction titles. Below is a screen-shot of the Level One Fiction game.
This game is really 3-games in one: you can choose to sort books, add a book to a shelf (in the correct order), or totally reshelve a bunch of books that are out of order.

Happy Holidays!
The Third Grade students completed a mini research unit about different holidays celebrated around the world during the month of December. Working in small groups, the students collected facts, then each group created a poster, which they presented to teach others about the special activities and foods connected to their holiday.
A slide show of their work appears below. Enjoy the break everybody, and have a great new year!
