Just in Time for National Library Week

National Library Week is being celebrated April 12-18th. The theme this year, Unlimited Possibilities @ Your Library echoes the idea that libraries are more than just books. At today’s libraries (which include school, public, academic and special libraries), patrons can find informations sources, as well as tools and technologies that help them explore a wide range of interests and activities.

Common Craft, the people who make great short videos to educate others on many technology-related subjects, has just released a video called Libraries in the Internet Age. It does a great job of explaining what today’s libraries are all about:

Stuck Inside During the Blizzard? Try Some Science & Technology Fun

snowday
If the latest snowstorm has left you feeling cooped up inside, why not try some hands-on science fun? The folks at Howcast have assembled more than 50 short videos on creating cool things like a balloon-powered car, 3-D glasses or a mini hovercraft. Make sure to have your parents’ permission before attempting to make anything on your own.

Our K-4 Theme: Getting to Know Great Authors

This year, the Lower School Library Theme, Getting to Know Great Authors, will introduce students to what it takes to be a great author or illustrator. We will learn about the writing process and conduct several comprehensive author studies to discover personal experiences that help inspire the authors to write the books we read.

Some of the first few authors in the spotlight are Kevin Henkes and Tomie DePaola for students in Kindergarten and First Grade, and Jon Scieszka, and DyAnne DiSalvo for students in Second through Fourth Grades. We look forward to learning more about these talented authors and reading some great books!
